about

[tracks Part 1, 2 and 3 are intented as a single piece. the Live tracks all make up a seperate single piece. the music was recorded as 192kbs mp3 and intended to be heard as such. because of this, the "high quality downloads" won't be significantly higher quality]

[listen on high volume]

--------

Recorded in a series of improv sessions from early July to mid August and mixed throughout August, Static Momentum stands as a tribute to intensity, momentum and abrasion. It's use of radio is unpredictable and sudden; the noise itself is loud, intense and physical; while the drums are competetive, mimicking and parodying the samples spliced throughout.

--------

When I started to record the first sessions that would become Static Momentum, I was inspired by using a very abstract kind of aggression, forgoing the confrontation-through-controversy of a lot of harsh noise in favour of momentum, parody and psychedelica. The use of drums throughout reflects this- but the use of radio ended up grounding the album. I had no way of knowing what the radio would play, which lead to a very complex call-and-response type structure; I constantly had to parody and mimick the music playing, in an almost conversational style of drumming.

I got really really into the recording sessions; trying to compete with and adapt to the samples on-the-fly led to a great energy which I hope comes through. When I started the editing process, I slowly cut down and re-arranged the sessions from 5 hours to 40 minutes while trying to ensure it never lost its momentum. Thanks to this, the finished album is really unpredictable and almost hyper-active.

I'm very proud of the finished album, and hope that you enjoy.
